Waxingtip TurBirken, HalvBirken og SkøyteBirken 2026

For those skiing TurBirken.

Updated trail report today 13.03.26 at 08:00:

The waxing conditions across the mountain are very challenging today.

It is +2°C, rain and wet snow at the start and up towards Dølfjellet. On the mountain the temperature ranges from 0 to -1°C with moist snowfall.

If you want grip from the start up to Dølfjellet you need klister.KN44 is a good option. There is a risk that klister may ice over on the mountain.VP70 well corked can be a good alternative across the mountain.

If you start with klister you should expect to stop to scrape it off,and then apply kick wax.

Zero skis and skin skis will work well today. Remember to bring a good scraper.

WEATHER AND TEMPERATURES

(Based on information from yr.no)

Weather forecast for Friday 13.03.26

Heavy snowfall is forecast in the mountains from tonight until tomorrow afternoon. Precipitation will fall as rain at the start and finish areas and in the lower parts of the course. This combination will make it challenging to achieve good grip across the entire mountain section. Strong winds are also expected in the mountains tomorrow.

STRUCTURE

Stone-ground skis: Medium/fine structure.

Swix Structure Tool: 1 mm straight roller with light pressure on the back part of the ski.

GLIDE – Alternative 1 (Racing)

Iron in Swix DHFF white marathon powder. Allow to cool and iron in once more. Let cool, scrape and brush with a steel or brass brush (T179/T162/).

Then apply Swix PF35 WC powder. Iron in with a waxing iron at 160ºC. Allow to cool, scrape and brush with a steel or brass brush (T179/T162/). Finish by polishing the base with the Swix T160 blue polishing brush.

GLIDE – Alternative 2 (Touring)

Spray on Swix HS07L Liquid. It may be beneficial to use a T21 felt cork for application. Spray onto the felt and wipe along the ski, then allow to dry indoors. Once the product has dried, brush with a blue or red nylon brush (T160/T190). We recommend using a hard glide wax as a base layer, for example Swix HS06.

GRIP

  • Roughen the grip zone thoroughly with #100 sandpaper (Swix T330 or T0011).
  • Iron in one layer of VG35 base wax with a waxing iron.
  • Then iron in one layer of V30 blue. This wax should only cover the base wax.
  • Apply 2–3 layers of VP50. Cork lightly between each layer.
  • Then apply 2–3 thin layers of VP65. Cork lightly between each layer. There is a risk that this may ice up in the mountains. It will provide earlier grip in the course than VP50.
  • VP50 is a wax that will probably work well in the mountains, but it will be slippery from the start.
  • These are very challenging waxing conditions, with wet snow lower down and dry snow higher up. It is difficult to find something that works well all the way. Skin skis will be a good option tomorrow. We have considered different klister options, but believe these will ice up in the fresh snow in the mountains.

SKIN SKIS

If you are using skin skis we recommend applying N21 Swix Skin Boost to improve the glide and grip properties of the skin.

If your skin skis are well used and the skins are dirty, we recommend cleaning the skins thoroughly with Swix N22 and then impregnating them with N20 Swix Skin Impregnation before applying N21 Boost.

Good luck and enjoy the race.
