How to choose the right Swix World Cup Wax

How to choose the right Swix World Cup Wax

The Swix World Cup series has been developed through thousands of tests and years of research, built on the principle that you’ll always find the right wax if you follow three steps: first, identify the snow type, then check the humidity, and finally, the temperature.

Fine-grained snow – PF Series

For new snow with sharp crystals, choose the PF series.

  • PF25 Fine Dry is made for dry new snow with low humidity (0–25 %) and temperatures from –20 to –2 °C.
  • PF35 Fine Mid works when the snow is slightly more humid (20–35 %) and the temperature is between –8 and 0 °C.
  • PF100 Fine Wet is used for wet new snow (25–100 %) and temperatures between –4 and +4 °C.

All PF products are based on Crystal Shield Technology, which forms a hard, smooth layer that protects the base from sharp snow crystals.

Coarse and Artificial Snow – PC Series

When conditions consist of old, rounded, or artificial snow, the PC series is the best choice.

  • PC25 Coarse Dry is developed for cold, coarse-grained snow (0–25 %) at –20 to –4 °C.
  • PC35 Coarse Mid performs best in moderate humidity (20–35 %) and temperatures between –10 and +2 °C.
  • PC100 Coarse Wet is made for wet, coarse snow (30–100 %) at –2 to +10 °C.

This series uses Nano Contact Technology, reducing the contact surface against coarse snow particles. The black variants contain molybdenum disulfide (MoS₂), which provides extra durability, dirt repellence, and antistatic properties.

Extreme Conditions – PM Powder

When conditions are dirty, icy, or extremely abrasive, PM (Molybdenum Powder) is the safest choice. It works from –30 to +10 °C, both in cold, dry snow and wet, dirty spring snow. The high molybdenum content makes the wax extremely durable, providing low friction even in highly abrasive conditions.

Liquid Gliders – Fast and Practical

The World Cup series is also available as liquid topcoats.

  • LF35 is designed for fine-grained snow in moderate humidity (20–35 %) and temperatures from –4 to +4 °C. Using Lotus Technology, it creates a superhydrophobic surface that repels water.
  • LFC100 works on both fine and coarse snow when humidity exceeds 25 % and the temperature ranges from –5 to +10 °C. It uses AmphiGlide Technology, which utilizes snow moisture as a lubricant while repelling dirt.

How to use the guide

  • Look at the snow: is it fine, coarse, or extreme (high wear/dirty)?
  • Perform the snowball test: dry (0–25 %), mid (20–35 %), or wet (30–100 %).
  • Choose wax based on snow type, humidity, and temperature.

Powder products deliver maximum performance and durability. The liquid versions can be applied on top of powders for extra speed in humid or spring conditions – or used alone for a simpler process.

When you face dirty or extreme conditions, PM powder or LC100 liquid are always safe choices.

Summary: Swix World Cup

The World Cup series covers the full range – from dry new snow at –20 °C to wet slush at +10 °C. The system is designed to make correct waxing simple: first snow type, then humidity, and finally temperature.

With this guide, you’ll have the confidence to wax right – whether you’re preparing skis for a World Championship start or a local race.
