Waxing Tips for Skarverennet 2026

Temperatures along the course, Saturday 17 April 2026:

Haugastøl at 07:00 +2°C Haugastøl at 10:00 +2°C Ustaoset at 12:00 +4°C

There has been significant snowfall in the mountains in recent days. Conditions will vary from the start and up into the mountains. As it looks now, it will rain at the start and snow higher up. Waxing conditions will be challenging. You should expect slightly poor grip from the start and then improved grip higher up. If you wax too soft at the start, there is a risk of icing higher up. Skin skis will be a good option tomorrow. We recommend large baskets on the poles.

Important: Remove ski wax after Easter. It is easier to wax clean skis.

Grip recommendation:

  1. Roughen the grip zone with sandpaper #100 (Swix T11 or T330).
  2. Iron in one layer of Swix VG35 green base wax.
  3. Then apply two thin layers of Swix V40 Blue Extra wax
  4. Then apply two to three thin layers of Swix VP65 red/black klister wax.
  5. Bring a good scraper, cork and Swix KN33 Nero klister for adjustments along the way.

Glide recommendation:

Simple option for recreational skiers:

  • Swix HS6 paraffin glide wax is ironed in to increase durability. Cool, scrape and brush.
  • Apply Swix HS8L Liquid spray. It may be useful to use a T21 felt cork for application. Spray onto the felt and apply across the skis, let it dry indoors. Once dry, brush with a blue or red nylon brush (T0160 or T190)

Advanced option for racing skiers:

  • Swix DHFF white marathon is ironed in. Cool, scrape and brush with T179 steel or T162 brass.
  • Swix PF100 WC powder or TSP10 yellow powder is ironed in. Cool, scrape and brush with T179 steel or T162 brass. A Swix steel/horsehair roto brush can also be used.

If you are skiing on skin skis:

The bases of waxless skis require maintenance in the same way as regular skis. If you are using skin skis, it is important to clean the skins first with Swix N22 Skin Cleaner. After cleaning, it is important to properly impregnate the skins with Swix N20 skin impregnation. Always remember to apply Swix N21 Swix Skin Boost before skiing.

All our products are fluor-free.

Wax service:

We at Swix offer waxing service, sales and information outside Geilohallen on Friday. You can deliver skis to us outside the hall:

  • Friday: Ski drop-off from 10:00 – 21:00. Skis will be prepared continuously throughout the day.
  • Saturday we assist with grip waxing and skin impregnation for NOK 100 per pair of skis at the start at Haugastøl. We recommend purchasing a waxing ticket at Geilohallen to avoid queues at the start. We also offer pole service at Haugastøl as well as pole and waxing service at all three feed stations along the course.

Have a great trip. See you on Saturday.
