Ellen Søhol Lie: A unique path to the world stage
Born in Sydney, Australia, but raised in Norway, Ellen Lie grew up with skiing. As a teenager, she stepped away from the sport, believing other pursuits were more exciting — until she rediscovered the joy of skiing.
"In 2018, I was watching the Olympics and saw Australia didn't have a relay team that year. So I was like, "Okay, they're missing someone. Maybe they're missing me."
Ellen contacted representatives in Australian skiing and started skiing again.
The challenge of becoming a world-class skier
When she returned to skiing, Ellen's goal was ambitious: To qualify for the Beijing 2022 Olympics. "I thought four years would be enough to become a top skier, but it was harder than I expected," she admits. Despite the challenges, her dedication never wavered.
"When I have a perfect race, I get goosebumps. It's an adrenaline rush that I can only get on the ski tracks," she says.
Now, her sights are set on the 2025 World Championships in Trondheim, where her ambition is clear – qualify for the sprint and break into the top 30.
Representing Australia on the biggest Stage
Ellen has found purpose in physically and mentally pushing herself, knowing she is part of something special.
As she prepares to represent Team Australia in Trondheim 2025, she is proud of her dual heritage and determined to give it her all.
"My name is Ellen Lie, and I'm representing Team Australia in the World Championships in Trondheim 2025."
