Chapter 5: Ski waxing and personal protection

Chapter 5: Ski waxing and personal protection

In our product range, we cater to every skier, from World Cup athletes to those who ski for fun. Our offerings are divided into two main categories: "kick" and "glide." You'll find products that fit your specific needs and waxing expertise level, and our Swix School makes applying these products simple and straightforward.

For most of our products, special precautions aren't necessary. This includes everything in the "kick" category, like our hard waxes and klisters. However, we do advise some care with our liquid aerosol products, both in the "kick" and "glide" categories. Ideally, these should be used outdoors or in a well-ventilated area.

When it comes to hot waxing with iron and brushing out glide waxes, particularly with roto brushing, it's important to work in a well-ventilated space. For your protection from gas and dust particles that come with ski maintenance, we recommend wearing our protective masks and gear.

All our masks and filters meet CE-approved standards, ensuring they provide the best protection during your ski waxing activities when used as recommended. If you opt for a mask from another brand, make sure it offers at least A2 level protection against solvents/aerosols and P3 level protection against particles. Always check the mask's expiry date and follow the cleaning and storage instructions provided. A quick tip for using face masks without a fan: be aware that having a beard can significantly reduce the mask's effectiveness.

We're dedicated to enhancing your skiing experience while ensuring safety during ski maintenance.

Our respiratory masks

Pro Mask with fan

CE-Approved mask for professional ski waxers that provides the best protection. Professional protection system that protects against vapor and dust related to ski waxing. The system comes ready to use with two combination filters for gas and particles. We recommend replacing filters a minimum of once before and halfway through the skiing season. Occupational waxers should replace filters every month. The system includes a full face mask, hosing, and a belt with a battery-driven ventilation unit.
Protection level: Gas: ABEK1. Particles: P3 R.
Spare filter: T41-FGP. Filter pack for T41-MASK, including two gas filters and two particle filters.

Professional mask with replaceable filter

The T43-MASK is a full-face mask that in addition to protecting your respiratory system, also protects your eyes. It comes with two filters, one for vapors and one for air particles. Both filters should be used at the same time for the best possible protection. It is essential that all filters are replaced every season. For technicians waxing often, we recommend changing the filters 2 times per season. The package includes the mask, a self-contained storage box, and both filters.
Protection level: Gas: ABEK1. Particles: P3 R.
Spare filter: T42-2F. Filter pack including both gas and particle filter. (Suitable for both T42-MASK and T43-MASK)

Economy Mask with replaceable filter

An economy mask that gives great protection against particles and vapor related to ski waxing. It comes with two filters, one for vapors and one for air particles. Both filters should be used at the same time for the best possible protection. It is essential that all filters are replaced every season. For technicians waxing often, we recommend changing the filters 2 times per season.
Protection level: Gas: ABEK1. Particles: P3 R.
Spare filter: T42-2F. Filter pack including both gas and particle filter. (Suitable for both T42-MASK and T43-MASK)

Better working environment

This range of protective equipment is expertly designed to enhance the environment within your waxing space. Each product in this category focuses on reducing airborne particles and vapors, ensuring a cleaner and healthier workspace. Ideal for both professional and recreational ski waxers.

Roto cover with suction

An ergonomic Roto handle with a drive shaft for 100 and 140 mm Roto brushes and a protective cover that can be connected to an extraction fan or a vacuum cleaner. The extraction option provides a significant added value for looking after the working environment in the waxing booth: when the extraction is connected, almost 100% of the small dust particles caused by Roto brushing are removed. Strongly recommended for serious ski waxers. NB: L-shaped quick coupling for connection to extraction sold separately. Fits perfectly in combination with Flexi hose (T15H) and Snaplock (T15-SNAP) for fast change between the iron suction frame and the roto cover.

Iron Suction Frame

Air suction frame for T70 Extreme Waxing Iron. For a better working environment. Slim version. Connect the suction frame to a vacuum system to reduce the vapor and small wax particles inside the wax cabin. Fits perfectly in combination with Flexi hose (T15H) and Snaplock (T15-SNAP) for fast change between the iron suction frame and the roto cover.

Flexi hose for suction system

Flexible hose for our suction system. It can be stretched from 1m up to 4 meters. Fix the flexi hose to your vacuum cleaner and your suction cover or frame. We recommend attaching the hose to the roof above your workbench or to the top of your ski storage rack (T0077-FR) for the most efficient way of working.

Snap lock for suction system

Snap lock made for fast and easy change between Swix Suction cover and Swix Iron Suction frame. The snap lock easily attaches to the hose (T15H) by screwing it on. The snap lock makes the exchange between the iron and the rotor cover really easy and fast.

Working clothes and gear

This collection of protective gear, including gloves, aprons, and pants, is essential for anyone engaged in ski maintenance. Designed for both protection and practicality, each item ensures a safer and more efficient waxing and tuning experience.

Waxing apron

A must-have for all people maintaining their skis. Chest and belly pocket for your tuning tools. Protects you against spills and splatters and keeps all your essential tools within easy reach while waxing and tuning your skis.

Tuning gloves

It protects your hands when working on skis. Thin polyester knitted glove with excellent grip and good feeling with the skis and the tuning tools.

Please note: Wear suitable gloves when handling base cleaner and other liquid products. To minimize the direct contact between the skin and solvent when cleaning skis, we recommend you use a nitrile glove after regulation EN374.

Work pants

Our work pants are functional and relatively slim lightweight pants for long days in the wax cabin and other activities demanding maximum freedom of movement. Made of material optimized for freedom of movement and ruggedness. The stretch panels give an outstanding fit. Ventilation zippers inside the instep, in the hand pockets, and lower down along the outside of the pant leg increase airflow during demanding activities.

Ventilated wax bench

We recommend having a ventilated wax bench to improve indoor air quality, especially as a wax station in retail or for those who want the best indoor air quality in their wax room. This is what you should look to invest in:

  • Air channel that gives controlled airflow and pre-warmed fresh air in the box.
  • The air channel makes it possible to have the waxing in a controlled room with good working conditions.
  • Collects and dispenses polluted air.
  • Is set up for balanced ventilation.
  • Can be connected to existing ventilation.
  • Adjustable height for the top part.
  • Needed air space 200m3.
  • Easy to transport between different venues and events.
